Should parents monitor their kids’ phone’s activity?

There’re no definite answer to the question. But the fact is, Kids are tech savvy, has their own ideas about when they’re responsible enough for gadgets, and can be awfully persuasive. But no matter how responsible, independent you think your kids are, their technological savvy seems always far outpace their ability to use the device wisely. Handing your children a smartphone like the Galaxy S6 means handing them a powerful communication and production tool, they can use it to broadcast their status and locations, take pictures of themselves and upload to the web and spread widely, they can download just about anything in the world. That’s why parents should proactively protect the kid’s interest and keep on eye their online social life, when necessary, step in to stop things from going too risky.

Signs that your phone’s tapped

Spy apps are clever at hiding themselves from unwanted attentions, it’s impossible to uncover the spy app through the software side, but there’re a few signs that’re hide to pass when you suspected that your phone’s being tapped.

Noises in the background

Spy app taps on live phone call by creating a call conference that involves the spy as the third participant, if the spy doesn’t have his phone muted while listening to your phone call, it’s possible that you can hear the sound that comes from his end.

Temperature spikes when the phone’s idle

One indicator of a possible phone tap is the temperature of the phone when it’s in idle mode, normally the temperature should be lower than when it’s in use, if it’s still warm, it could be that the spyware is gathering and uploading information to its server. Also note that there’re other scenarios that the phone will be heating when it’s not in apparent use, like when the album app is uploading the photos in the cloud, or a new system update is being downloaded or installed.

Phone’s not staying charged

This is like the previous sign, a tapped device is constantly recording conversation in the room. It will be working even when the phone appears to be idle.

Data plan drains quickly

Most of the spy apps support peeking into the album, the feature is realized by the spy app to upload all the photos to its remoted server, this process will consume considerable amount of data, which may make your cell phone quickly hit the data cap. If your phone’s experiencing abnormally high data usage, it’s always worth looking into, even if you’re not being tapped.

How to recover deleted photos from Sony Xperia Z2/Z3

The method introduced in this article can also be applied to Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 compact.

Sony Xperia Z2 is a handsome and robust lad that defies typical hazards like water and dust, but what of untypical ones, like an absentminded owner confronted with the all crucial “delete all” confirmation and decide to press on, and all the photos on the phone end up being deleted by mistake. Well, as incredulous as it sounds, it happens to the best of us, if you are in such a dire situation, relax, chances are good that you can recover the deleted photos, one way or another.

Recover deleted photos from Sony Xperia Z2 normally goes three ways:

  1. Online backup saves the day. Before resorting to recover local files, which is normally time consuming and costly, see if there’s an online backup somewhere that slips your mind. Even if the idea of backing up everything has never dawned on you, with every major tech companies trying to shove its could service in everyone’s face it is possible that one of them may have you consented to upload your files even without your noticing. Check Google +, if you haven’t changed the default setting, Google + has this auto backup feature that constantly uploads the videos and photos captured with your Sony Xperia Z2 to your  Google drive. Also take a look at Picasa, drop box, and Sony pc companion if you have it installed on your computer. But if you are positive there’s no online backup being made in the past, we have to recover local files, this leads to these two scenarios:
  2. We can easily recover the deleted files if they are stored on the SD card.
When the operating system sends a delete command, its purpose is to free up memory spaces, so the “deletion” only marks the area where the deleted files stored on the memory as bank and being available for storing new data. The deletion doesn’t destroy the actual files. With photo recovery software, the deleted files can be restored without much hassle.
  3. Recovery impossible if the deleted files are stored on the phone internal memory.

Well, harsh truth is harsh… the phone memory is where the Z2’s system files are at, it simply denies access request from all third party software, including our photo recovery.

So, obviously the first scenario is a false alarm and the third one is a lost cause, we will concentrate on how to recover deleted photos locally from Sony Xperia Z2’s SD card. If you are reading this article on your Z2 or a tablet, you will need a computer to pull this off.

  1. Take out the micro SD card from Z2 and use a SD card adapter/USB card reader to connect it with computer.
  2. Download Photo Recovery software, the software is available on both Windows and Mac platform.
download-for-windows-icon Download for Windows             download-for-mac-iconDownload for Mac
  3. Start the software, click on “recover photos, audios & videos”.
  4. Select the drive letter that represents the card. Click on “scan”.
    stellar-select-drive
  5. Thus the scanning process began. It could take a while to go through every corner of the memory card. The scanning gathers all the files ever deleted from the card since the beginning, categorize and lists the files by file types and extensions, while scanning, you can preview the detected files in the preview window.
    recover-deleted-photos
  6. After scanning completed, check the files/types you want and recover the deleted files.

Finally, Google maps for IOS 6 is here

After months of issues and formal apologies from apple’s offering, now the IOS platform finally arrives a full-fledged maps app, Google has released a native map app for IOS 6 and quite frankly, this is by far the best map app for the iPhone. It doesn’t merely served as a solid alternative to the apple map, Google’s map fairly excels the apple map regarding data, looks and experience. The tech bloggers universally applaud the map as the best-designed maps app on any platform. Compared apple’s first foray in location service with Google’s, Google easily wins in the data front, with comprehensive mass transit data and fewer inaccuracy issues that plagued the preinstalled map app for month. The pleasant surprise in here is that Google’s app even beats apple’s in aesthetics (depending on your preference). It’s the overall combination of accuracy, comprehensive data, intuitive design that makes Google’s app ever so compelling, especially in a time that iPhone users may as well being lead to accident by a weak apple map.

If Samsung sticked to stock android, all of this could be avoided

Samsung lost the most important trial in tech history, ordered to pay up for apple for one billion dollars. Money alone doesn’t concern Samsung that much, it’s the potential ban of Samsung smartphones that keeps the ceos awake at the middle of night. What is worse, Samsung skinned the stock android to make its own dent, regretfully, it’s been fulfilling its purpose by copying apple, which not only makes itself a copycat, but also put the whole android party in jeopardy.

No matter you call apple’s game an act of bullying or pursuit for justice. What’s been done is done. Samsung lost the trial, a heart wrenching day for its fans, as well as fans of android.

Google breaks silence and state that the identified infringement doesn’t exists in the stock android. The company is confident and safe.

We hear chuckles, from Microsoft.

Google and oracle ordered to disclose paid bloggers

There’s a few arguments comes down to closure nowadays. Google won’t pay oracle a dime. The doom of android is overstated and it seems that this trial gives oracle a finger and shatters their dreams of picking big bucks from google’s pocket. But the drama isn’t over yet, the judge oversees this trial has issued orders to oracle and google to disclose bloggers and journalists who’s been paid to do favored coverage. Let’s be honest, as a Chinese netizen I am shocked by the very fact that there’s even a blogger or journalist who’s been paid by google. I my naive mind I truly believed that this form of despicable things can be only conducted by my own government.

Ok, personal feelings aside, let’s point out that the most notable blogger among the group is florian Mueller of the blog foss patent. Now you are saying, it is pretty ironic that a blog sponsored by Microsoft would name itself free open source software patent.

Both companies have until noon, on Friday 17th to submit the bloggers and journalists in their pockets

Google fiber stretch its wings, hold back by wifi limitation

A vegan cafe in Kansas has been endowed with the Google fiber, secretly, for several months. Theverge performed a few tests and found, as expected, speeds were hold back by the limitation of wifi network. The struggle peaks to 160mbps, much lower than the advertised 1G per second speed. The fine folks conducted the test also mention that the HD playback became lagging where there’s another player enters the ground and claim his share of bandwidth. The 1000M internet service is bundled with TV streaming, it’s unlikely that streaming 1080P movies will take up a big chunk of your 1GB bandwidth.

It’s worth mentioning that the test is anything but scientific, also the files were downloaded from sites with notorious download speed like apple.com.

Surface, will it blend?

Is Microsoft a monopoly that bully start up and stifle innovation? According to the hatred that hold by many noble bloggers, the answer is a definitely yes, even with the continuous stellar financial success, Microsoft has been doomed for many years. Now, with the inception of its very own hardware, the surface, Microsoft ventured into the field where it has tasted failures and currently dominated by its fearsome enemy – apple, the tablet pc business. Unlike zune or xbox, this is where Microsoft may cause potential conflict of interest with its faithful allies. And that kind of things generally doesn’t end well. Like apple did, like palm did when they licensed out the palm os while kept making the hardware. Since google’s acquisition of Motorola mobile, things has been made crystal clear that google’s engineer will not meddle with Motorola’s, google wants to allay the concerns of other android makers that unfair competition with their OS provider’s very own hardware. When it comes to Microsoft, we see no such announcement of maintaining firewalls or gestures, why? Microsoft has zero market share in the pc market in terms of hardware, so it’s less a concern. Second, android manufactures can turn to windows phone, while the pc makers don’t seem to have equal eligible alternatives. Microsoft may be a little pricky in the eyes of pc makers, but today, who makes the code makes the rules.

Samsung: the galaxy s3 was not designed by lawyers

galaxy3
In the past few years, the idea that the iPhone’s design is ultimate and unparalleled has been cultivated into a belief that rooted in the minds of many, when this idea is challenged, the believers bring up this argument, “see Samsung’s doing? They completely ripped off the iPhone’s look, and that made them the king of android”. Ture, Samsung galaxy s2 shares part of its aesthetic appeal with iPhone 4, the similarity is more obvious when we traced back to the inception of galaxy s era, when the market is buzzed over the iPhone 3GS. Apple’s openly indignation has never ceased, and that troubles its chipmaker. This time Samsung manages to do something different, something bold, something that doesn’t mimic apple’s effort, as inspiring the spirit was, the Samsung galaxy s3 received mixed or rather disappointed reviews, other than the outrageous pentile display, the overall design is to blame. So, people start to think that if the design of Samsung galaxy s3 is churned out by some lawyers hired by Samsung who’s tired of being ass chased by peers from apple. Anyway, I myself dislike the look of Samsung galaxy s3 when it first appears, but it slowly grows on me, slowly but steadfastly solidify my decision in buying one. Anyway, I am a Samsung fan in my heart.

The screen of iPhone 5 will be scaled to 4 inches

We can be sure that there is a new iPhone released every year, but the details about the events are rarely straightforward. After sticking to its 3.5 inch screen for 5 straight years, folks at Cupertino think that it’s the right time to go bigger with the retina display.

May be it’s the spacious, gorgeous super lcd 2 display on the HTC one x, maybe it’s the super amoled plus on Samsung galaxy s2,  there’s no denying that there’s a growing affection for larger, brighter displays. And with today’s standard, 3.5 inches is just a sin. The question remains if apple will stick to its original aspect ratio, because with the current ratio, a 4.0 iPhone screen will be as wide as the HTC one x which has a 4.6 inch screen.

Also there’s rumor says that the iPhone will be packed with the soc which is identical to the new pad released in March. The rumor is plausible because that’s what apple did with the iPhone 4s.
